Due to the better toughness of PPR pipes, especially high-quality PPR pipes have a shiny appearance, while those with poor texture have a cloudy color.
PVC pipes and PPR pipes are two commonly seen types in our daily life or building decoration, but there are still some people who are not very familiar with the two types of pipes and may confuse them.
1、 The difference between PVC pipes and PPR pipes
1. Different colors
Due to the better toughness of PPR pipes, especially high-quality PPR pipes have a shiny appearance, while those with poor texture have a cloudy color. On the other hand, PVC pipes are mostly milky white with a glossy surface, but the cross-section lacks luster and the material is relatively brittle.
2. Different wall thicknesses
Compared to PVC, PPR generally has thicker pipe walls, but for small-diameter pipes, it is difficult for ordinary people to distinguish them. PPR pipe, officially known as random copolymer polypropylene pipe, is a commonly used water supply pipeline in home decoration engineering. It has advantages such as light weight, corrosion resistance, and long service life. It can be used as both a cold water pipe and a hot water pipe, and even as a pipeline for purified water and drinking water. Due to the fact that this type of pipe does not scale and does not experience aging and water leakage problems like aluminum-plastic pipes, it is widely used in general civil and public buildings.
3. Different raw materials
PPR pipes are mainly made of copolymer polypropylene, so PPR pipes are also known as type III polypropylene pipes, while PVC is made of polyvinyl chloride material. Due to different main raw materials, the performance characteristics of the two types of pipes are different. It is precisely because of the raw materials that PPR pipes are mostly hot-melt during installation, while PVC pipes are mostly glued together.
2、 How to choose two types of pipes?
1. Look at the appearance
When choosing a water pipe, you can check whether the appearance of the pipe is round and whether it has any deformation or distortion. Whether the surface of the water pipe is smooth and the color is uniform. The outer wall of regular and qualified water pipe materials is printed with clear trademarks, specifications, production dates, and other related information.
2. Odor
Most water pipes are made of plastic, and plastic water pipes are produced using mechanical extrusion technology. Nowadays, some businesses use toxic plastics in the production of their pipe products in order to seek huge profits or due to poor manufacturing processes.
